My First Dog

It all started when I was in 3rd grade in Ethiopia. It was second term when my parents got me a puppy. They went to the Korean Embassy and brought back a Dovermen Pincher! I just couldn¡¯t believe it! A puppy for me to take care of! And that day, I named my puppy ¡°Amy.¡± Amy had the color of black, brown, and white.

I remember that there was a white cross on her chest and the surrounding was brown. There also was a brown mark on top of Amy¡¯s eyes. The top part of Amy was all black.

Amy ate a lot! As a puppy Amy ate more than 2 bowls. Amy would eat anything I gave, because she trusted me. Amy ate a lot, but she never became fat.

Amy was a smart dog! She knew how to sit, lie down, beg, roll over, and play dead. The first thing she learned was ¡°Get out!¡± It¡¯s because she came in to the house.

The first few days Amy slept in the kitchen, but after that she had to sleep outside. And did you think did? NO! Of course not, she just kept whimpering by the front door. After few hours the whimpering stopped but Amy came to the back door and started whimpering again. The back door was in my parent¡¯s room. So my parents let Amy in. (That was the last day Amy slept inside and the next day she slept outside.)

When Amy grew from a puppy to a she became very violent. No Ethiopians wanted to come toward our house. Amy world bark at any Ethiopians that she doesn¡¯t know.

When I ended 5th grade my family was going on a furlow, but before that my dad had to ask some one to take care of Amy. My dad found a place where Amy could be taken care of. It was a Korean restraunt. There is a Korean restraunt in Ethiopia, which my dad told the owner to take care of my dog. I said good-bye to Amy and my family and I went on the furlow.

Year and a half later.

When I came back to Ethiopia. I first wanted to see Amy. The third day we went to the Korean Restraunt. I ran to the counter when I got there to ask where Amy was and the lady there told me she ¡¦¡¦. Has ¡¦¡¦ ¡°DIED!¡± Then the owner of the restraunt came to apologize for what happened. Then he told me the story how Amy died:

He first told me how smart she was. The owner had another puppy, not just Amy. One night the puppy hot sick and the owner didn¡¯t know about it, but Amy did! Amy started to bark and tries to tell that the puppy was dying, but the owner ignored it. The next morning he went to feed the puppy but and Amy and found the puppy dead. He realized why Amy was barking last night. He told me that whenever there was a problem she would go to him. When it was almost time for us to come back he had to give the dog back, but he wanted to keep her. `so he tried to make Amy get married.

When she was pregnant she was fine for the first day, but the second day she died. The doctors said that the puppies inside of Amy had died and he told me that he buried her by the gate. After the story ended I went to Amy¡¯s grave.

I went to Amy¡¯s grave and there was a stone that said,¡± Amy 1995-1998 Great dog.¡±

I still have pictures of Amy. When she was a puppy and when she grew up. I wished I could have another dog like that and I did! , and I named that puppy, ¡°Amy.¡±
